DESCRIPTION:
APW - Waltham, five-minute repeating chronograph, 16S, recased in CPBM OF Keystone case fitted with threaded adaptor ring for greater bezel height, SW-LS, WE-SSD with outer chapter divided in fifths of seconds, lever escapement with antimagnetic white alloy HS, bimetallic white alloy and steel expansion balance, 16-17J, GJS, GCW, ribbed pattern NI damascene, s#3793270, from a run of chronographs preceding a run of repeaters. A button at 7 serves as the slide, with smaller button at 12 for chronograph activation. We sold s#3793696 in 2013 with the same balance system.
CONDITION:
Mvt: GRO, fine to excellent mvt condition overall, setting is very rough and requires lever to be held out; repeat function is good but hesitant, the five-minute sequence slowing down and speeding up; chronograph is complete, but drive wheels either slip or engage erratically, the button too small to push with one's finger; dial has pitchfork crack from 10 to 11 through center; hands fine, broken sweep tail; threads front and back will operate smoothly if one does not exert downward pressure; case shows little wear, some MFS, no dents or dings, crisp knurled detail; bow tight, crown shows little wear; plastic crystal with some MFS.
